I was like that child who would be the first to raise her pudgy hands when her teacher asks who wants sweets.
But he didn't ask if I wanted sweets ,we were just in the middle of an intellectual discussion where he used the Malaysian ringgit as an example. He kept using Malaysia as examples, further into our discussions. That was when I became agitated and I wanted to raise my hands and announce to the whole class that I am from Malaysia and yes Ringgit is our currency. *Thank You, Curtsy*
But that would probably earn me a lot more questions that I am not prepared to answer. What if they
ask me questions such as "Why did Malaysia reject the IMF help" and would that ideally be the same as
what Enchik Lenihan is doing right now. I don't have intelligent answers to give.
As always, when a foreigner (padahal aku yang foreigner) mentions your country, you tend to be all ears, just waiting to correct them for any misinformation that they might have. Remember the time I told you how my lecturer said SGD is the Malaysian dollars and I almost went mad? I don't quite like it when my lecturer uses wrong examples because he is a lecturer!
Well maybe it is the same with them, when somebody is trying to act all local and wrongly use the local lingo and it means an entire different thing? I mean after all these years, I still cannot simply say "Good luck" to my colleagues who are going home for the day. I will still say "Babaiiii" And I would feel silly ordering "Bangers and Mash" or when ordering a side of crisps (pronounced crispths, with your tongue tangled, while enhancing the word ASS). Bangers and Mash are actually just Sausages and Mash Petaytes (Potatoes)
It's so much easier being a Malaysian," Can I have some Cikedis with that sandwich please?"
PS-The writer also learned that the people from the South of Malaysia refer to Crisps as Jajan. The writer, whose Dad hails from the East Coast, would like to acknowledge the fact that the people from the East Coast calls it "Kepok" and Chewing Gum as "Cekelok Getoh", or literally tanslated to Chocolate Gum.
I, errr was taught the word Cikedis by my brothers.
Edited: Siapa ajar orang KL sebut Cikedis??? I know we have Chikatees here, but I don't recall having Chickatees in Malaysia...ke ada? The cikedis I like include Super Ring, Twisties, and Cheezels.
