A letter from my big boss

I suppose he should have said it in the beginning of the week. A lot of my friends who work in the city got to go off early because of the terrible icy condition currenlty in Dublin and Ireland as a whole. I've seen a few people falling on their backs because of the condition of the road. We get laughed at by the Scandinavians and probably the Finnish and the Russians for panicking in this weather, but you've got to understand, we are not prepared for such conditions. Of course our cars has no snow tyres. It would be silly if they did because we don't usually get snow or ice.

Dear All,

I just wanted to say to a personal thank you to all staff and to state that it has been much appreciated the commitment and determination shown by all and sundry during this past week, in order to get into work and to continue to service our clientele.

It is obviously critical for both the reputation and going concern of the Company, as well for all work colleagues and clients alike, that we all soldier on as normal and we all share the load, despite the serious transport challenges that we are experiencing.

Most of our clients as you know are from far and wide and probably blissfully unaware of what all of us to varying degrees (and more importantly many of you in large degrees) have had to endure to commute to work or make arrangements on the home front, in order to provide them with the continuity of service that they expect.

We repeatedly state that it is the Human Capital in T** that is the greatest differentiator to our peers and this week is further evidence of that.

The senior management are acutely aware of the collective efforts that you have all respectively made and on behalf of all of them I wish to thank you all personally for that. Let us hope this white stuff and cold snap starts to abate over the weekend and we can return to some form of normal commuting conditions (and schools and crèches re-open please lord!) next week.

I always admire his words, as I am a sucker when it comes to languages and words lah basically. But when we were all busy discussing about the email above, one of my colleague (who is a very unprofessional when it comes to manners and communication with colleagues) said "Why bother writing such a long email when you can say what you want to say in just a few sentences". So I asked her, like what? Just Thank You? He could have just said "Cheers Lads for coming in everyday this week." She thought that it was just bullshit, ayat penyedap hati.

If there's one thing I learned from work and my supervisor is that, let it be known that you honestly appreciate any help you get from your colleagues. A little bit of gratitude goes a long way. That's one thing I believe. I believe that when I become a Manager one day, I will remember to say thanks to my team. For it is true, without them, your work cannot be executed well.

You'll make one great MANAGER. Praise yr subordinate in public, reprimand confidentially.
