Travelling to Tokyo with a Toddler (Part 1)

If you were to ask me what travelling to Tokyo with a toddler is like, I must say it is both exciting and tiring at the same time. I will share with you in detail, but before that let me recap our trip, just so when I read this again in years to come, I will pat myself at the back for taking the plunge ( but it is not Zayn’s first time in a foreign country, I travelled with my extended family before but the logistics were different.)

Anyhow, seeing as how my husband is a crew with MAS, his leave will only be approved a month before. So we were unable to plan months in advance for this trip. He has been telling me since November/December last year that as soon as his leave is approved we will go to Japan. So imagine after January and February his leave was still rejected, so I had in me that we won’t be going this year.

It was sometime in mid-February that his leave was finally approved and we had 3 weeks to plan. I thank god that my husband likes to over plan once he’s set his mind into something, all I had to do was to sort out was the packing for both Zayn and myself. The rest was left to him (after all he’s paying for our trip hehe, I just had to throw in some of the places I want to see)

Tips for a small family (I only have a toddler)

Date: 13th March to 21st March 2017

1.    Pack 1 or 2 weeks before.
Seriously, as a working mum and I only have the weekend to sort Zayn and my stuff, it can be very overwhelming. And at his age, he’s taking out everything that I have packed! Make a checklist, obviously.

2.    Check the weather forecast
This was really helpful as I knew what to pack for Zayn and how to incorporate that information into our plan.

3.    Download games on the tab
This is god sent. I do not need to apologise for this, but it made our trip that more bearable (you will understand once you read further)

4.   Bring both a compact stroller and carrier
I only decided to purchase the carrier 4 days before after reading tips from people who have been to Tokyo with kids! This is again, God sent what with some stations only having stairs or escalator!
We use the Babyzen Yoyo and Boba 4g carrier. I love both to death! The Boba 4g carrier can be folded into a small pouch and fits into Zayn's Diaper bag!

5.    Rent a pocket wi-fi instead of buying a sim card!
Their internet is superfast and you are connected at all times! It costs about RM2++ for 8 days that we were there. Pick it up straight at the airport and return it at the airport as well!

Do share with me what are your tips when you travel with kids!

To be continued..

I AM.

Hello lovely people,

As you might notice I have been hit with the travelling bug and so I have been taking every opportunity to travel. Bak kata pepatah melayu, Jauh perjalanan, luas pemandangan or translated in English simply as Travelling broaden your horizons.

This is how I travel, as light as possible. All the 100 mls placed neatly in a clear plastic. Standard ruling everywhere I think.
Travelling telekung. I'm sure all you ladies have this bag as well. Probably the most useful God sent, literally. :D
And last but not least, a converter because UK and Ireland do not use the same types of plug...
Ok now, guess where I am going this bank holiday weekend? I am __________

Ada apa dengan Liverpool?

My first trip abroad was to Indonesia and I can still remember clearly, upon entering the plane, I made a dash to the first available seat and tugged at my brother's T-Shirt and excitedly said to him "Eh, duduk lah sini." ."Kau ni jakun lah, mana boleh suka hati je pilih kusi(kerusi) sendiri" he laughed and teased me. I was 7 years old.

My first big trip to a farther destination was to perform the Umrah when I was 8+ (I loved to say I am 8 plus when asked of my age) and then we went to Istanbul after Umrah. I remembered my mom telling me upon entering Masjidil Haram. "Nampak tak kotak hitam kat tengah-tengah tu? That is Kaabah". Wait a minute, I thought. That was what I learned in school. I didn't know that performing Umrah meant that I was able to see the Kaabah. How fortunate I was to have seen it in front of my eyes at such a tender age.

Then when I was about 9, my Dad planned a trip to France to visit his ex secretary who followed her husband who got posted there. We were all very excited and had handed the letter to the Class teacher informing them of our absence in school for a month. Unfortunately, the big plan was cancelled and my Class teacher was always snickering and repeatedly asked me when I was going to ooooh France. Sampai loh ni, tok sapa sapa France..

Then one fine evening when my Dad arrived home after work, I remembered clearly of a letter my Dad had asked my mom to read out. It was some sort of bonus that my Dad had received for some travel allowance . And when my cousin was graduating in Warwick, my Dad planned a family trip to the then oh so glorious England. Kalau dalam ambience kat Malaysia, orang kata nak pi London!!

And that was when I first heard of the Beatles. My brother had a walkman with a mixed tape of The Beatles and Neil Sedaka. On top of me looking cool, or so I thought with a Walkman, we were so like Kool and the Ganag travelling around England in a caravan. Talk about being a hippie! I rewinded and played the Beatles and Neil Sedaka throughout the whole journey. I go ape, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Can't buy me love.

So when my friends and I visited Liverpool last weekend, I knew I had to visit The Beatles museum, since it is the birth town of the fabulous four! And of course at every mention of London or England, I would fondly remember their songs. " I wanna hold your hannddd" was probably my favourite song as a child .My siblings and I would belt out this song while my 1st brother strum on his guitar. But my 1st brother, who always have to be different from others, made us listen to the one in Deutsch. it sounded the same but it was " Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand". So for a very long time, I thought the lyrics were "Come give me Diana's Hand".

You know how we all are, just singing to whatever we think the lyrics are, as long as it sounded the same. But hush hush, I still do it till today.

The fabulous four!

The museum told the history of the Beatles from the formation right until the break up of the Beatles.

I used like the Spice Girl and my brother had the original Spice Girls t-shirt!

This for you Babe. The beatle maniac!
Andy Warhol inspired art.

After we were done with the Beatles, we went to the city centre for lunch. After searching high and lo for Halal Nandos, we settled for Crunchy Chicken, which tasted anything but crunch chicken. More disappointment. We didn't go to the famous Anfield stadium because for one, I am not a football fan, and two, Naim who is a die-hard Manchester Fan followed us on this trip to visit Old Trafford!.

Since I had been to Manchester last summer, I didn't really bother on sight seeing around Manchester. This time around we went to Manchester because it was Syuk's graduation. Myself and Jaja did not attend the ceremony, but Amna did. Anyway congrats to Syuk!! Engineer ye bukan pomen
