You learn to appreciate the Indian uncle who sells you Kacang Kuda or chick peas in English, when you attept to make some for yourself and you realise it will take you at least a day before you are able to eat them.
Such is life and the things you take granted for. No wonder the ones that theysell to you are oversized, with the skin peeled. They must've been overboiled.
This is chick peas 101 for you.
1)Buy a bag of raw chickpeas from Dunnes or Tesco
2)Look in horror at the instructions.
3)Soak the peas overnight, between 8-10 hours. I would look like a prune if it was me soaked in the bath for 10 hours.
4)Drain it, boil for a good 10 minutes and then continue to simmer in hot water for 2 hours or more.
And the sda part it only takes you 15 minutes to finish them all up. Hrm, so much for making a bowl for snack attack in the future!.All that whole day of preparing the peas so that it is edible, only to get it processed and leave your system the next day. Pfft.
While we are at the topic of chick peas, or kacang kuda, let me tell you the story of how it was my Grandmother who taught me how to eat kacang kuda. She jokingly said that "lepas mimi dah makan ni mesti lari macam kuda", and then she laughed. So I didn't believed her but it tasted good, so wadderhell kan masuk je mulut. Anyway we used to buy this kacang kuda and jagung in the pasar malam every week. Along with the RM 1 stickers, the Chinese guy would sell. My Acu will belanja me the stickers because I was always the only one who will follow them to the Pasar Malam.
So while we were all eating the chick peas together, Capek told us of how his mother told him that he will run fast if he eats the kacang kuda. So he actually ran while eating the kacang. He was pissed that he could not run fast.
Also while eating, Anna tetiba je went like "Neighhh neighh". As if it sounds like a horse. Just admitlah the only type of horse you like is the Polo Ralph Lauren horse.
