Hospitalized Part 4-End

Unfortunately Sharon Smith was in the 'room' opposite to mine. I would not have known her name if she had not thrown a tantrum earlier on, and telling everyone her name. I suspected that she was either drunk (so early in the day!) or just feeling euphoric. (hehe). It turns out, she had twisted her ankles and that explained the bare left foot.

I was amazed that I didn't wake up to cold shivers, instead, I woke up to the series of questions the Doctors were asking other patients. The answers, aitellyew!

Patient 1:" I started drinking since last weekend, I didn't stop until I felt cramps all over, my chest and my legs"
Doctor: "Why were you drinking?"
Patient 1: "Mid-life crisis"
Doctor:" And you didn't stop drinking until today?"
Patient:" Yeahh"

Doctor:" I heard that you do not know where you are? Do you realise that you are in a Hospital?"
Patient2: "No"
Doctor:" You are in Mater Hospital!"
Patient2: Why am I in a hospital?

Doctor: "We have to examine your backside as well as your shit" ( I put on my mp3 on after that)


So the following morning, a porter boy came with a wheelchair to bring me for my scan. The procedure is called V/Q scan.

A ventilation/perfusion lung scan, also called a V/Q lung scan, is a type of medical imaginglungs. The ventilation part of the test looks at the ability of air to reach all parts of the lungs, while the perfusion part evaluates how well the blood circulates within the lungs. This test is most commonly done in order to check for the presence of a blood clot or abnormal blood flow inside the lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE), although computed tomography with radiocontrast is now more commonly used for this purpose. The ventilation and perfusion phases of a V/Q lung scan are performed together and may include a chest x-ray for comparison or to look for other causes of lung disease. A defect in the perfusion images requires a mismatched ventilation defect to be indicative of pulmonary embolism.

In the ventilation phase of the test, a gaseous radionuclide xenon or technetium DTPA in an aerosol form is inhaled by the patient through a mouthpiece or mask that covers the nose and mouth. The perfusion phase of the test involves the intravenous injection of radioactive technetium macro aggregated albumin (Tc99m-MAA). A gamma camera acquires the images for both phases of the study.

Yeah, so that whole shebang about me inhaling radioactive, is part of the procedure to evaluate my blood circulation. Everything lasted about 15 minutes or so. I got the results 7 hours later.

Bored of waiting

If I went to the States after inhaling radioactive, the security will stop me and announce " This girl is carrying radioactive material and may need to be detained". Ok ok , lawak bodoh.

So they transferred me to a ward at about lunch time and I had to entertain myself with my mp3 and my book. Waiting sucks, and just when I have informed my housemate to bring another spare of clothes, Dr Lambert came to me with my test results.

" The specialist couldn't find anything wrong with your lungs, no clot or whatever"

Amin.Alhamdulillah. I forgot to ask then, what did Dr Mark meant by abnormality in my blood. I could only hear the word "could not find anything wrong" and I was all smiling and relieved and ready to leave the hospital. I did not bother asking anything else, oh except for an MC. She granted me the whole week off.Hehe.

I don't like the smell of the hospital.No one does. They served me Turkey and Mashed Potatoes for lunch and Roast Beef slices and Mashed Potatoes for Dinner. If only they were Halal, I would have gobbled them in seconds.

This dessert tasted like rubber and plastic and it was as hard as stone.

I remembered visits to SJMC when I was younger when my late grandmother was admitted to the hospital. She will not eat Hospital food because it's tasteless, but we,( I swear it's all of my siblings involved) would eat her food up. I secretly think now, because my late Tok loved us grandchildren so much and knew how much we love to eat, had purposely left the food untouched for us. I bet the nurses are always left in puzzles thinking why her lunch is untouched and her dinner is licked to the bones?
